Ctenocephalides species
The dog and cat fleas, Ctenocephalides canis and C. felis, respectively, may occasionally bite humans, and serve as hosts for the double-pored dog tapeworm, Dipylidium caninum. Humans can become infected with D. caninum when accidentally ingesting an infected flea. Ctenocephalides canis and C. felis have pronotal and genal combs, relatively short, non-serrated mouthparts, and a long body. Like all adult fleas, they have a laterally-compressed body.
